The Blockbuster Deal
By Austin West
During All-Star weekend there was a little trade going on between the Pelicans and Kings. This trade was made in literally a day or two. The Sacramento Kings traded DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi for Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and a first and second round pick. They must have really wanted DeMarcus on a team with Anthony Davis.
Now the hype that the duo is being talked up to is, without a doubt, reasonable. Some people are saying that this is the best big man duo since Tim Duncan and David Robinson were together at San Antonio. I mean, they are putting up outrageous points together alone. They put up 69 points together against the OKC Thunder.
Even though they are putting up good numbers, the question is will this duo be able to keep up with the game once it gets rolling. These big men are not going to be able to stay on the court at all times. This might cause a problem since they let go of one of their best shooters in the back court. Without shooters you can’t spread the floor to get better looks. The technical fouls that Cousins has been getting aren’t going to help either. Even though they might have the two best big men in the league right now. The wins are not going to come easy.
The Pelicans GM has just made one of the biggest risks in trade history. Will he take the fall or will he build the team to win a championship. Only the up and coming years will tell.
