TV Review: This Is Us
By Lydia Manley
From the very first episode America was hooked. This show gives us a modern twist on the complications of a diverse family. It centers on a family’s life in 2017 and also switches back and forth from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. The show is a tearjerker that will leave you wanting more after every episode.
Mandy Moore, who plays the mother Rebecca, does an amazing job playing a young expectant mother as well as ageing and playing a grandmother. She is married to Jack, played by Milo Ventimiglia, a dad trying to be the best family man he can be. Sterling brown plays Randall, a successful business man on the pursuit of perfection. Justin Hartley plays Kevin, a young actor struggling to find his true place. Chrissy Metz plays Kate, an overweight 20 something year old struggling since childhood to control her weight. Kate then meets Toby who is played by Chris Sullivan whom she meets in her support group and they hit it off.
Altogether, this is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time, but requires watching from the beginning.
