Album Review: Obsessed By Dan + Shay
By: Hannah Polacheck
This American country duo met in December of 2012 in country music city, Nashville, and instantly became friends. Ever since then, they have been writing music together. Dan + Shay experienced a breakthrough with their single “Nothin’ Like You” off of their debut album in 2014. Since then, the couple has had a lot of time on their hands to perfect their latest album. Obsessed is the second album the duo has recorded, and it was released in June of 2016.
Tracks and Theme:
The current hit single “From the Ground Up,” has so much meaning to it. It’s about how love is more than just making memories and saying “I do.” Love is about how you will go through rough patches in life, and will have hard decisions, but with the right person you can get through it. These themes are the main focus of the album. The track “Road Trippin” is my personal favorite. The song reminds me of a summer night with the windows down, having your music turned all the way up, and just driving without a destination. It makes me imagine having a fun time with all of my friends.
Obsessed has a perfect combination of slow and fast songs. If you’re in the mood to listen to sad songs, there are plenty of those to choose from. Or, if you’re in the mood to just have a jam session, then there are some faster paced songs that would be perfect. Overall, I would rate Obsessed a 5/5 for not only the sound of the music, but the lyrics. I am obsessed with Obsessed.
